The inventor of the ATM is dead
BBC News today report the death of John Shepherd-Barron, the inventor of the ATM. Read the fascinating story of this groundbreaking self-service technology so ubiquitous and yet so alien when considering the amount of human work it has removed over the years. It is one of the most visible examples of the much more comprehensive processes of computerised automation and also a sign of much more to come. The invention of the 4-digit pin is particular interesting, although some may like the idea of radioactive cheques better.
